hearing Attention to Silence/Stillness

At first, when I was meditating upon the experience of silence, it was as if all of a sudden I was noticing all of the sounds in the room, without even trying: the buzzing of the computer, little sounds in the room, etc.

Then, when I practiced meditating upon the experience of stillness within, this went through several layers or chapters, I was actually surprised at how much it changed over the course of the meditation.

While i was practicing paying attention to the experience of silence, I could notice very acutely the buzz of some electronic device in the room, as if to send me validation that there is in fact no absence of silence

Then during attention to stillness in the body, there was an expansion, and then a “keying down”, and finally a deep feeling of relaxation and bliss

Well at the beginning of the exercise I immediately experienced a "falling away of the layers" and that continued throughout.

I experienced deep relaxation in my chest, and a consistent "dropping in".

I was freezing throughout the entire exercise, and I've had the flu, so it felt very distracting. I followed the directions to "allow the distraction to be" and gently bringing my focus back. It helped. Over time, I had a sense of being aware of the sensation of cold without being controlled by it. I think another user used the term "right distance", which I like.

The sense of an unfolding fractal was very deep. The quality of unfolding layers continued in the "stillness" portion; this stillness inside my body seemed to gently expand and grow as I paid attention to it, as if it were being watered.

Wow, this meditation took me really deep. In the first part (paying attention to silence) I remembered that Dr. Hoefs said that silence was just an experience, and so in the back of my mind I was like "this is just an experience"

Over time, there was a deepening quality of relaxation and peace. Then, once I switched over to attention to stillness inside, the flavor was different, like something slowly opening up inside of me and expanding is all I can think of to describe it. I didn't want to stop, I just wanted to keep going with the attention to stillness, because it kept expanding.

Really a remarkable exercise, the contrasts are so blaring, and yet they are not contrasts because one can observe them operating as one unbroken whole of activity!
